Robert Newton's main practice areas are in commercial law and equity. He has a special interest in insolvency related matters, both corporate and personal. He also has considerable expertise in engineering and construction law. A significant strength is knowledge and experience gained through many years working closely with commercial, financial and accounting professionals.

Since 2000 Robert has practiced full time as a barrister based in NSW. He has conducted matters within NSW, interstate and overseas in a wide variety of courts, and tribunals and through alternative dispute resolution.
He has 27 years prior experience as a solicitor, including several years as a partner of a large firm.
He has given expert evidence on Australian insolvency laws in the USA and Greece.
As well as holding a current practising certificate in NSW Robert also maintains one in Fiji. He is willing to accept briefs in all Australian jurisdictions and Fiji.
